Concerns over under age online gambling

Sheldon Adelson, the American casino and hotel magnate has commented on the legalization of online gambling and has raised concerns over the fact that it would be impossible to restrict youngsters from betting. He says there is no readily available technology to detect under age gambling. This is the primary reasons for Mr. Adelson opposition to the  legalization of online gambling.

Mr. Adelson is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., the parent company of Venetian Macao Limited which operates The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and the Sands Expo and Convention Center.

As per the Company’s spokesperson, Ron Reese, Adelson’s comments do not reflect the stand of the Company, but are just a personal point of view. All this comes into news just as big Vegas land based Casinos like MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment Corp. are now moving into the world of online gambling through partnerships with reputable overseas gaming companies in anticipation of US lawmakers eventually regulating online gambling.

The concern over under age gambling has also hit the biggest social network Facebook. Facebook is opening up to online casinos and other gambling games  on its application. This has raised alarms bells as it could indulge youngsters to think that it is ‘cool’ to gamble. So in other words, such practice could encourage minors to bet.

Online gambling has its pros and cons but again, were it to be made a reality, there should be a clear set of regulations so that issues like under age betting are instantly detected and handled in a swift manner.
